With the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regaining power in Andhra Pradesh, the long-stalled construction work in the capital city of Amaravati has resumed. The previous YSR Congress government had halted the construction, intending to shift the capital away from Amaravati, which led to the area becoming overgrown with trees and thorn bushes. However, with TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu set to take oath as chief minister in a couple of days, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) officials have initiated extensive jungle clearance operations in the capital region.
More than one hundred excavators are currently engaged in these clearance work, operating round the clock. State Government chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad recently inspected the construction sites and directed that the jungle clearance be completed immediately. Additionally, orders were given to ensure street lights in the capital are fully functional.
Following the CRDA master plan, the TDP government has decided to construct 32 major roads within the 217sqkm capital city of Amaravati. These roads are to be developed in phases, but the construction had ceased under the previous government. The machines are now clearing bushes along the designated routes, and CRDA officials aim to complete the main road constructions and initiate development works on farmers’ plots.
