Adani Enterprises and Hindalco Industries have expressed initial interest in developing two copper mines owned by Hindustan Copper in Jharkhand, according to sources. Both companies took part in the pre-bid conference held on Monday. The combined capacity of the two mines is three million tonnes per annum. One of the mines has been inactive for the past 20 years. Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), a miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, was established in November. It is the sole company in India involved in copper ore mining, holding all operating mining leases for copper ore and serving as the only integrated producer of refined copper.
