The 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly convened for its maiden session on Friday, commencing with the oath-taking ceremony for the newly-elected MLAs. TDP MLA G Butchaiah Chowdary presided over the proceedings as the Pro-tem Speaker at the Assembly Hall in Velagapudi, Amravati, starting at 9:45 am.
Notably, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu attended the session after more than two and a half years, marking a significant moment. Additionally, actor-politician and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan made his debut in the House as the Pithapuram MLA and Deputy Chief Minister. The upcoming session will also oversee the election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
According to TDP sources, there is a likelihood of senior party leader and Narsipatnam MLA C Ayyannapatrudu being elected as the Speaker. During the ceremony, CM Naidu was the first to take the oath, followed by Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. Following the oath-taking, Naidu approached the Pro-tem Speaker’s chair to extend greetings.
The NDA alliance achieved a landslide victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, securing 164 out of the 175 seats in the House.
